Axiom Verge Timeline

Date Place Event
A'ansur Highly advanced technology is developed by humans on A'ansur[1][2], such as machines able to heal any sort of ailment, and highly intelligent computers that can develop their own will.
Kiengir Kiengir is established, as a prosperous civilization bearing resemblance to real-world ancient Sumer[3][4]. They bring their technology with them from A'ansur, however, forget its origin with time, coming to worship it. One of these worshipped machines is the Lamassu.
Kiengir Udug—demons—from the Breach begin to descend on Kiengir with seemingly no care for how the Breach affects the Sagiga.[5]
Kiengir The Lamassu orders for the Sagiga to build structures to defend themselves against the Udug, such as schools[6], bridges[7], and even weapons[8] and vaults[9]. It instructs for the Sagiga to fight against the Udug.
Kiengir The Udug War begins.
Kiengir After the Udug notice the beginning of the war, they begin to hunt down the Sagiga[5] and fight back. This prompts the Lamassu to think of stronger weapons, such as Storm Bombs and Arms.
Kiengir The first Arms are made from pure nanotechnology[10], and assigned to Wielders. This proves inadequate, and Arms are eventually made from human beings and their minds. This appears to work more efficiently, and tens of people are turned into Arms daily.[11]
Kiengir Elutil, sister to Ludari, becomes a student at the edubba in the Giguna Steppes. Eventually, she decides to become an Arm, despite her lack of care for the Udug War, in favor of achieving immortality. She is given the name Amashilama and is bound to Mageshgetil.
Absu[12] The most powerful Wielders and warriors push into the home of the Udug: Engur. The Sagiga win the battle[13] and the Udug appear to vanish from Kiengir.[14] The land of Engur becomes Absu, and those remaining from the battle become the first inhabitants of Sudra.
Sudra Sudra, or Ziudsudra[14][15][16][17], as a settlement is formed.
Kiengir Following the Udug War, the Lamassu orders for all of the wartime technology to be destroyed[18], including the Arms. Wielders gave themselves up to be annihilated with storm bombs[19], though some resisted. Any Arms not bound to a Wielder were hidden or buried.[20]
Breach Mageshgetil and several other wielders flee Kiengir, travelling across the Breach.[21]
Sudra Sudra becomes a prosperous civilization with advanced technology brought by the travellers from Kiengir. This time of prosperity is later referred to as The Land of Civilized Kings, though this may refer to Kiengir.
Sudra Following a great conflict[22], the Sudrans see the harm their technology can do if used for war, and banish all such technology, leading Sudra into a "Dark Age"[23]. Thus, Sudra's advanced civilization collapses.
Sudra The Sudrans devolve into a heavily religious society.
Winter, 2005 New Mexico, U.S.A., Earth Trace conducts an experiment with colleague Dr. Hammond at their laboratory in New Mexico. A frozen pressure valve explodes outside the lab, severly injuring Trace.
Earth Trace is hospitalized for months, blind and crippled from the waist down.
Earth Lost in his thoughts, Trace has a scientific "Epiphany".[24]
2006[25] Earth Trace publishes his theories as several "Axioms".[26] He is outcast by the scientific community and given the nickname "Athetos".
Breach Trace traverses the Breach with Dr. Hammond, arriving on Sudra for the first time.
Sudra On Sudra, Trace and Hammond use a "Rebirth Chamber" to heal Trace, and discard his wheelchair, which can be found rusted in Eribu. The two of them briefly explore Sudra, discovering their amazing technology (which the Sudrans have mostly locked away).
Breach Trace/Athetos attempts to go "upstream" through the Breach to find answers on the next world. It is unclear if Hammond accompanied him, but she returned to Earth by 2007.
2007[27] Earth Dr. Elizabeth Hammond develops the first ansible, developing the foundation for Hammond Corp.
Sudra Athetos returns to Sudra, and unleashes the Pathogen, killing thousands.
Sudra In their desperation, the Sudrans release the Rusalki, and allow them access to all of the ancient technology that the Sudrans once locked away.[28]
Sudra The Rusalki manage to destroy Athetos's mobile Pathogen protection unit.
Sudra Athetos shuts down the Power Filter and Repair Drones, crippling the Rusalki.
Sudra Athetos retreats to the elevator high above the planet's surface, in Mar-Uru.
Sudra Over many years, the Rusalki fall into a state of decay.
2200 - 2500[29] Sudra Elsenova and Ophelia execute their plan to create a new clone of the original Trace.[30]. The player gains control and the game begins.
Sudra The clone of Trace succeeds in defeating Athetos. Elsenova kills Athetos and puts the clone into a coma.
