The face of Athetos

Athetos is a human who was able to reach Sudra by passing through the Breach from Earth. He acts as the game's primary antagonist, having eventually used a pathogen to wipe out almost all of the Sudrans. Athetos was also able to team up with Katrahaska to disable and defeat the retaliating Rusalki, so that he could learn and figure out the scientific breakthroughs available on world's beyond the Breach and Sudra.

Upon his arrival on Sudra, Athetos used a Rebirth Chamber (the egg-shaped save points in the game). He would then discover that this left imprints of himself (save data) in the chamber. Using this imprint, he was able to create clones of himself that he could transform transform into "Variants" to act as his guardians and warriors. Many of these Variants act as the various bosses that Trace must battle throughout the game. Later, the Rusalki would use this same tactic to create yet another copy of Athetos—Trace, whom the player controls throughout the game.

Athetos is ultimately located and confronted by Trace, and is subsequently killed by Elsenova, despite Trace's pleas not to kill him. Athetos is seen afterwards in one of the game's endings, back on Earth with Trace, where he shoots Trace with a gun while stating, "It's time to wake up, Trace."
