A Variant is a biomechanically modified clone of Athetos. Sometime after arriving on Sudra, Athetos was able to use data imprinted in the Rebirth Chambers to clone himself and then began experimenting on the clones. Several in-game Notes include the clones' own journal logs of these experiments as they experience their transformations.
Variants show up as many of the game's Bosses.
