"Area 1 REBIRTH LABS- ERIBU: Characterized by test tubes of pulsating organic matter, this is where Sudra's inhabitants would rebuild their own bodies, and where Trace is first brought into the world. It also connects to an ocean-themed surface, "[1]

Eribu is the starting area of Axiom Verge. It is a dreary cave area filled with rocks as well as strange red bubbles. There are many secrets, weapons and upgrades in this area, many of which can only be reached after obtaining one or more upgrades from other areas. Connected below it is Absu, while to the east is Ukkin-Na and Indi. The song that plays here is "Trace Awakens". It can be replayed using the Passcode TRACK0-000002.

Story

This is where "Trace Prime" arrived many years earlier and where he first found out about the advanced technology the Sudrans built. In the room above the first Rebirth Chamber Trace wakes up from at the beginning of the game, he can find the wheelchair "Trace Prime" arrived on and a faded note "Trace Prime" wrote after using the Rebirth Chamber.

Etymology

Eribu is the Sumerian word for "enter".[2] This makes sense, since Eribu is the game's starting area, and presumably the first place Trace Prime came to when arriving on Sudra. The area name could also derive from Eridu, which is regarded as the oldest city in Mesopotamia[3], being a conglomerate of Sumerian cities. In mythology, it's regarded as the home of Enki: god of water, knowledge, fertility, and creation.[4][5][6]
