Description
"Double-tap to teleport. Damages tiles and enemies in your path."

The Red Coat is the third and final Lab Coat upgrade. It allows Trace to teleport through walls that are horizontally three blocks thick and, like the Trenchcoat, can also be used while jumping in mid-air and teleporting in all directions.

It increases Trace's damage resistance beyond the protection provided by the Trenchcoat and Modified Lab Coat; Trace only takes 30% of the damage he would without a coat. (This damage resistance seems to be added onto the resistance provided by the Lab Coat, rather than being set to this value, as acquiring the Lab Coat after the Red Coat in Randomizer Mode still provides a defense increase.)

In addition, the Red Coat damages any blocks or enemies Trace passes through. This damage is the same type as the Laser and Drone Drills, therefore it will damage uncorrupted Drometons, Boulders, Gripping Hands and Spitter Aliens.

Trace is invincible and moves much faster while teleporting with the Red Coat. This makes it incredibly versatile for traversing through Sudra, as well as getting to many previously inaccessible areas. Most importantly, the Red Coat is required to reach Mar-Uru, the final area of the game.

In the game code this upgrade is called "Overclock".

Depending on where it gets placed in a given game, the Red Coat may be necessary to enter the hard difficulty Secret World. The entrance may even be a puzzle.

Location
The Red Coat can be found in the lowest room in E-Kur-Mah. The Sudran Key is required to reach this area.

Randomizer Mode is a mode in Axiom Verge that changes where items appear. Credits for its creation can be found on Thomas Happ's blog and the game's credits.

It is a derivative of Speedrun Mode, having all of the same options and creating its own save file separate from the main ones in the same way. Likewise, Secret Worlds do not appear.

Options
A specific seed can be generated one randomly, or the user may input one. Seeds are in the range from 0 to 9,999,999,999 (10 digits). Due to the way pseudorandom number generation works on computers, you will always get the same results with the same seed and "Progression" type, of which there are 3:

* Default, which randomizes "using vanilla item progression logic" and "assumes that you will be playing through the game in much the same way that anyone would progress through it"
* Advanced, which randomizes "using speedrun progressional logic" and "assumes that you’ll play through the game the way a speedrunner familiar with exploiting certain glitches may go through it"
* Masochist, which randomizes "using low% speedrun item progression logic" and was included for the "exactly 4 people in the world able to play this mode", including some of its developers
As it still seems reasonable to complete the higher progression difficulties for non-speedrunners and without using glitches, perhaps these phrases refer to the potentially much lower number of items that are on an optimal route for a given seed compared to the normal item distribution.

On top the timer display and optional boss split display from Speedrun Mode, Randomizer Mode can also display the seed and item and map percentage for each area. If the option is enabled to display the seed on the screen, these progression types show the seed in blue, green, and red text respectively.

Mechanics
Randomizer only affects the placement of items — enemies, room layouts, destructible elements, etc. will still be the same. Items cannot appear in any location, instead they will always be found where an item usually appears — but almost certainly it will be a different one.

The item randomization is done in an intelligent fashion to avoid progression softlocks, but this does not mean that the normal progression item is always the one that is found first — any upgrades or sidegrades may appear instead. Nor does it always appear in the usual location — it may appear anywhere in between the start of the game and when it is first required. (In particular, bosses can very often be skipped since they end up guarding optional items.) For a non-exhaustive list of examples:

* The first item obtained, where the Axiom Disruptor is usually found, will always be a weapon so that the bubbles on the right side of the initial save room can be destroyed.
* A weapon that shoots through walls may be placed anywhere in between the start of the game and where the Kilver is usually acquired.
* The Drone may be acquired before the Laser Drill.
* The Red Coat may appear before either the Lab Coat or the Trench Coat.
* The Address Bomb may appear before either Address Disruptor 1 or Address Disruptor 2.
* It may be that there are additional possible replacements between seemingly unrelated items the Randomizer does not account for. For example, many barriers that usually require an Address Disruptor or a weapon that shoot through walls could be bypassed with the Trench Coat or Red Coat instead.

Considering this, a map of the game will still be useful, or even more useful than usual, as it is possible "you may have to explore some of the nooks and crannies of the areas... that you might normally only explore later" to obtain a necessary item. On the other hand, if a late-game item is obtained early, it may enable signficant out-of-order exploration.

Just in case a softlock occurs anyway (e.g. falling into the room where the Field Disruptor is normally found without having already obtained it), there is a new option in the pause menu to respawn in the first room .

On Default progression, only 4 Notes appear: the two language translation notes, "Proverb", and "English". On Advanced and Masochist, none appear. Notes that are missing are replaced in the pool of items by additional Health Nodes, Power Nodes, Health Node Fragments, Power Node Fragments, Size Nodes, and Range Nodes, and even Secret World weapons! Specifically:
* On Default, 24 Notes are replaced by...
** 3 additional Health Nodes
** 4 additional Power Nodes
** 12 additional Power Node Fragments
** 1 Size Node
** 1 Range Node
** All 3 Secret World weapons
* On Advanced/Masochist, all 28 Notes are replaced by...
** 1 additional Health Node
** 2 additional Power Nodes
** 10 additional Health Node Fragments
** 12 additional Power Node Fragments
** 3 Secret World weapons

Although Advanced/Masochist replace more Notes with useful items, most of them are Node Fragments. As a result, after 100% collection, a Default playthrough will end with an equal amount of health, 2 additional Power Nodes worth, and one extra Size and one extra Range Node compared to Advanced/Masochist (though these will still have more health/power than a normal playthrough).
Secret World Weapons
There are 3 total weapons that can be found in Axiom Verge's Secret World. You can only find one in each save game. Once you have found all 3 secret world weapons, the game will randomly select which one appears in the next game.

In Randomizer Mode, these can be found outside of a Secret World replacing another item, and all 3 can be obtained in a single save.

Axiom Verge 2
The sequel to Axiom Verge is notably lacking in the weapons that made its predecessor unique, however, compensates with the addition of Arms to not only enhance certain weapons, but give the player capabilities they wouldn't have had in the first game.

Description
A Secret World (referred to as "breach pockets" in one of the journal pages) is an alternate area in Axiom Verge that has a "glitched/corrupted" appearance.

While in this area, strong scan-lines will appear on the player's screen—as though the game is being viewed on a cathode ray tube (CRT) television with greyish static, occasional saturation reduction and vertical sync anomalies shown.

Upon entering a Secret World, Trace is warned by Elsenova to turn back. She tells him that this place is like an "artifact—dangerous flotsam and jetsam" (like wreckage) caused by the Breach. Trace conjectures that it is some kind of "dimensional rift" but that it may contain an item he needs.

Secret World entrances spawn in random locations throughout Sudra, based on a large pool of potential entrances. The layout of each Secret World is procedurally generated, and each one is different, being generated from a set of algorithms in the game code. Once entered, a Secret World will have the same layout when revisited from the same save file. The worlds sometimes contain false doors that appear to lead somewhere, but cannot be passed through. 5 Secret Worlds are created in each save file. 2 Easy, 2 Medium and 1 Hard. Each Secret World contains one primary, and one secondary item. Since only one hard Secret World is created per save file, only one secret weapon can be obtained per playthrough. (In Randomizer Mode, these weapons can be found outside of a Secret World replacing another item, and all 3 can be obtained in a single save.)

Easy Secret Worlds are found in Absu, Zi and Kur, containing primary items - Range Node or Size Node- and secondary ones- a Health Node Fragment. Medium Secret Worlds are found in Eribu, Indi and Ukkin-Na, with the same types of items as the easy worlds. The Hard Secret World can be found in Edin, E-Kur-Mah or Mar-Uru. They contain either the Heat Seeker, Scissor Beam or Fat Beam, as well as a Health Node Fragment. The Hard secret world entrances can be puzzles involving the use of the Red Coat.

Despite the difficulty of finding the entrances, Secret Worlds themselves contain no hidden items or secret paths.

Finding Entrances
The area around an entrance to a Secret World causes visible "scanlines" to show on the screen that intensify as Trace gets closer to where it can be entered. These scanlines are first visible on the health bar, but easily noticeable covering the whole screen when very close. At close range, the effect just outside of the entrance is at about half of what is shown inside a Secret World map.

These effects happen even when finding Hard world entrances. They can also happen in a different room, if the entrance is close enough to the opposite wall in the other room.

The easiest way to find entrances are to look for the interlaced health bar pattern, rather than shooting randomly at walls, as some of the entrances can be rather hard to detect.

<gallery type="slider" widths="600" hideaddbutton="true">
</gallery>

Location
Five entrances are randomly created from the possible ones shown on the map in each save file. 2 easy, 2 medium and 1 hard.

Each entrance will have one of nine properties:
#PASSABLEWALL - Intangible, drawn in the foreground.
#DRILLABLEWALL - The Laser Drill or Drone Drill must be used to enter.
# MISSINGWALL - Wall blocks that would be there otherwise are missing.
#FLICKERINGWALL - Wall flickers between two different tiles
#CORRUPTEDWALL - Trace must use the Address Disruptor or Address Bomb to enter.
#WALLTELEPORT - Trace must use the Modified Lab Coat or its upgrades to enter.
#DRONEACCESS - Trace must use the Remote Drone - the vertical gap is too small for Trace to fit through.
#PASSWORD - Applied to gates in Passcode blocked areas?
#OVERCLOCK - Trace must use Red Coat to enter - way is blocked by destructible tiles beyond solid wall (might only be Hard areas)

Story
As mentioned in one of the journal pages, Athetos discovered and utilized the secret worlds in an attempt to hide certain sensitive items (secret weapons) from the Rusalki, reasoning that they wouldn't go in since the Breach interferes with their electronics. Elsenova confirms this idea, saying the secret worlds are dangerous and that the Breach cannot be passed through normally. Travelling into the Breach is a trait rarely seen- seen only with Trace and Indra, though the latter requires an upgrade to go through.

The appearance of the Secret Worlds resembling the rest of Sudra implies that at some point, the Sagiga managed to traverse the Breach and build inside of it, much unlike how the Breach is seen on Kiengir, an entirely alien landscape.

Inspiration
"The secret areas are inspired by things like Super Mario's Minus World and Metroid's Secret Worlds, which weren't planned by developers, but glitches. The reason for the randomization is to replicate the effect you get of something that isn't designed by a human."
The Heat Seeker is a rapid-fire weapon that shoots orange flame-like projectiles at long range. These projectiles will seek out nearby targets. If no targets are available the projectiles will shoot straight in the direction they were fired.
When fired, the Fat Beam fires a thin yellow targeting laser that causes a 2 second delay before an actual damaging beam fires which is wider than Trace's height. The attack button must be held for the full duration of targeting. Once the damaging beam is fired it continues firing for 4 seconds even if the attack button is not pressed. The beam can be fired in all 8 directions, and its direction of fire can be changed at any time during its operation. Being able to penetrate walls and attack enemies that are well outside of the screen bounds and its low damage period (it repeatedly hits enemies in short succession) make it a very useful weapon. However, it is not very good for close combat or rapidly moving enemies due to the targeting delay and relatively low damage compared to most short range weapons. It's best used to clear enemies from a great distance.
When fired, the Scissor Beam shoots 2 yellow laser beams that have purple connecting beams at regular intervals. There are arrows at the end of the two yellow beams. The beams start at a wide angle, and collapse to a single beam in the direction it was fired. The angle of the weapon can be changed at any point after firing. With a comparatively long range for a wall-penetrating weapon and decently rapid cooldown (it can be fired again fairly quickly), this is a very useful weapon.
